Turned in an old unlocked iPhone 6 back in December to upgrade to the iPhone 8, with a $300 discount promised. I specifically asked the salesperson at the store if I could have the iPhone 8 unlocked, as I spend a significant amount of time working in another country and need to use that country's SIM card when I am there.

The salesperson reassures me that yes, this model can be unlocked. When I get home and call customer service to have the phone unlocked, they inform me that this phone is not eligible for unlock until it has been on the Sprint network for 50 days, as it is under a lease agreement, so they cannot unlock it for me. I go back to the Sprint store where I am livid - I would have simply bought a cheaper unlocked phone online had I known this. The manager of the Sprint store is apologetic and says they have another phone I can use while I wait the 50 days and provides me with an iPhone 5s.

He gives me a number to call to have the iPhone 8 unlocked in 50 days. Fast forward 50 days. I call the Sprint number from Kenya to have my iPhone 8 unlocked, as was promised. The supervisor on that line tells me that they cannot unlock the phone, as the lease needs to be paid off in full in order to unlock it.

Again, I was livid - this was information that was not shared 50 days ago, and would have changed my decision! I decide to bite the bullet and pay off the lease, so at least then, I own the phone. The payoff amount they give does not include the $300 off I was supposed to receive for GIVING THEM my iPhone 6. They say they haven't yet received this phone (even though I submitted it to THEIR STORE) so I must pay off the full amount, then will receive a credit on a future bill for the iPhone 6 once it is received.

I then pay the payoff amount. The payment goes through and I am told the phone will be unlocked in 24-48 hours. Then I receive an e-mail saying that the phone is not eligible for unlock, as it has only been on the Sprint network for 10 days! Apparently the manager at the Sprint store who provided me with the loaner iPhone 5s deactivated the iPhone 8 from my account in order to activate the 5s, meaning it is ineligible for unlock until it is on the account for 40 more days.

I am still waiting for a call back from customer service where they say "they hope they can find a resolution." I have told them the only resolution is to unlock the iPhone 8, as it is now PAID OFF IN FULL. After this runaround of half-truths, I will never use Sprint or recommend it to anyone ever again.

Reason of review: Order processing issue.

Update from OP: they will not unlock the phone for an additional 50 days. I am so done with Sprint and will advise everyone I know never to use them.
